{"id":500,"date":"2011-10-16T10:16:32","date_gmt":"2011-10-16T00:16:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/staplecake.com\/?page_id=500"},"modified":"2013-01-21T10:54:44","modified_gmt":"2013-01-21T00:54:44","slug":"hastie-mary-1817-1848","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/rjoleary.com\/?page_id=500","title":{"rendered":"Mary Hastie 1816-1848"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Relationship to me:- Great, Great, Great Aunt<a href=\"https:\/\/rjoleary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Edgar_Headstone_0041.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/rjoleary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Mary-Birth.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2269 aligncenter\" title=\"Mary Birth\" src=\"https:\/\/rjoleary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Mary-Birth-205x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rjoleary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Mary-Birth-205x300.jpeg 205w, https:\/\/rjoleary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Mary-Birth-699x1024.jpeg 699w, https:\/\/rjoleary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Mary-Birth.jpeg 799w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 205px) 100vw, 205px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">REGISTER OF BAPTISMS 1816<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Mary is the third from the top and reads:-<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Hastie : Mary-Lawful Daughter of John Hastie and Jean Muir in Drumalbon was born on the twenty fifth day of May Eighteen hundred and sixteen and Baptised on the twenty ninth day of the same month.<\/p>\n<p>As an interesting aside, all\u00a0baptismal candidates names are followed by &#8220;Lawful&#8221; except Stevenson : James-son of&#8212;&#8211;Draw your own conclusion.<\/p>\n<p>It would appear Mary and James lived their whole lives in <a href=\"http:\/\/g.co\/maps\/rpye8\">Moffat<\/a>. \u00a0James occupation\u00a0is shown on his headstone as &#8220;flesher&#8221; which today would be a butcher.<\/p>\n<p>The assumption here is that Mary died due to complications of childbirth as she passed on the 4th. September, 6 days prior to the infant George John.<\/p>\n<p>Of their three known children, only Jane b1844 lived to adulthood, dying at age 53 on 3rd. April 1897 at Moffat where she was born.<\/p>\n<p>John George was only 10 days old on 10th. September 1848 when he passed away.<\/p>\n<p>Margaret b1844 died at Kennelhall, parish of Johnston(e) at age 15 on 5th. January 1859.<\/p>\n<p>There are ample examples where records become confusing and here are a couple more. \u00a0Carmichael\u00a0appears twice on modern maps, once as a\u00a0village and again as a farm. \u00a0As the record of baptism shows Mary was baptised at Drumalbon (modern or possibly the correct spelling,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/g.co\/maps\/fmvk6\">Drumalbin<\/a>)\u00a0which appears to be another farm in the\u00a0vicinity of Carmichael.<\/p>\n<p>There is a parish of Johnstone in the shire or county of Dumfries but no modern record of any place named Kennelhall.<\/p>\n<p>It would be doubtful but unknown if all the listed people are in fact\u00a0interred\u00a0here, and I am thankful to the person who erected this and other Headstones<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rjoleary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Edgar_Headstone_0043.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1349\" title=\"Edgar_Headstone_004\" src=\"https:\/\/rjoleary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Edgar_Headstone_0043-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rjoleary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Edgar_Headstone_0043-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/rjoleary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Edgar_Headstone_0043-681x1024.jpg 681w, https:\/\/rjoleary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/Edgar_Headstone_0043.jpg 719w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>IN MEMORY OF<\/p>\n<p>Mary Hastie wife of James Edgar, Flesher in Moffat who died 4th.
