As with other certificates the information given is by an informant who can be anyone from a family member to the local shopkeeper who had some knowledge of the deceased. It appears that in this case the informant was the local undertaker and it is a mystery where he obtained said information. The inconstancies between the Death Certificate and the records of the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registry in Victoria are monumental.
All the children were born in Victoria so the assumption is Mansfield. The noted deaths are again all in Victoria although the districts are unknown.
Thomas Junior, born in 1899. There is no obtainable record of his death.
Catherine, (noted as Gertrude on Thomas Sn. death certificate) was born in 1901. In 1919 she married a Mr. Francis Cameron Prain.
Clifford, born in 1902 and died in 1904.
Walter was born in 1904 and died in 1975.
Their son Albert was born in 1906 and passed away on 20th. April 1932 at Mansfield, Victoria apparently unwed.
Patrick, born 1908 and passed away in 1983.
Stanley was born in1910, and again, no obtainable record of his passing.
There is a daughter, Mary noted on Thomas’ death certificate as being 39 years at the time of his death. This gives two choices as to her record of birth being unobtainable. Either she is about 5 years younger than stated, ( a distinct possibility as all other children’s ages listed were incorrect) therefore being born after the unrestricted records or she was a figment of the informants imagination.
